The Life O' Riley

rileys bday 025

On April 14th, 1997 at 1:10 am, after 5 hours of labor so intense that I screamed my freaking head off during every.single.contraction, this gorgeous little girl popped out of me, only she was alot smaller (7 pounds 8 oz compared to her current weight of approximately 55 pounds...THANK BLOODY GOD!), and had less hair.

She is such a good kid, was such a great baby, I am scared shitless for the teen years.

Most parents take tons of pictures of their oldest child, then less and less as they have more children.  Because when Riley was born we were young and didn't have much, our camera was a piece of crap that took shit pictures.  (As she got older my cameras got progressively better and now I'm a picture snapping fool).  I loved it when any grandparents would come over  because they would always get great shots with their expensive cameras.  I started scrapbooking when Riley was 1.5 years old, and was so careful never to crop any of the pictures that a grandarent took because it was my only copy.  Above is such a photo.  My mom took this one, she would take Riley for a few days at a time down to Seattle and give Chad and I a break.  From what, I'm not sure, because like I said, SUCH A GOOD BABY!

Sure, she had her moments, like the time I gave her mashed potatos for dinner when she was 2.5 and I was busy cleaning up and *gasp* she ate them all.  My daughter, Riley, ate mashed potatos.  Then as I cleaned her plate and dumped the rest of her milk down the drain, mashed potatos landed in the sink.   Even when she was being a stinker, she was still cute about it, giggling in the corner over how sneaky she was.

Riley was in daycare from when she was 5 months old until about 4 months before kindergarten started, aka when my maternity leave with her brother started.  Never once did I ever pick her up and have her caregiver tell me 'your kid was a total brat today', because it never happened.  If every day we were rated with gold stars, Riley would have a gold star for each day of her life so far.  Like I said, very.afraid. of the teen years.

Best Friends

She has always been the perfect big sis to Carson, always playing with him and wanting to show him new things, usually patient with him, I say usually because he's a boy, and he's 3.  Need I say more?  As far as Carson is concerned, Riley hung the moon.

I should say 'Raaaaaleigh' as Carson calls her, as though she is a southern belle, which she really is, a beautiful southern belle trapped in the body of a tall, skinny, slightly awkward pre-teen.  My girl is gorgeous and she is goign to be blossoming and changing so much in the next few years it gives me unease.   It makes Chad want to buy  more weapons.

She bowls like her mother

Our only solution to prevent her from turning into an evil, hormonal teenage girl was to take her bowling or golfing, to get her into something stigmatized for those 'popularity challenged', rather than the dance lessons I have recently began paying for, and dance eventually turns into cheerleading and cheerleading turns into tailgating parties and keggers and lots and lots of boys wanting to 'hang out' with our innocent, sweet, Raaaaleigh.

Kickin ass

Happy 9th Birthday, Miss Riley, you have no idea what the future has in store for you over the next 9 years.  I will always be here to guide you along the way.

Love, Mom

But they never caught the fucker who stole it

Saturday, April 01, 2006

Last June Hotnuts suffered a major loss.  His motorcycle was stolen from under our noses as we slept, shattering his faith in mankind.  I won't even get into how he didn't have theft insurance therefore my day sucked if his carpool buddy decided he was going to ride his bike, so hotnuts would have to take my car to work.

(This whole 'my car' thing is going to be confirmed soon by extensive advertising for my business on the rear window, ensuring he will never, ever want to drive it again.  Unlike the plumeria scented mini hawaiian lei on the rearview mirror, he can't just shove the back window in the glove box whenever he wants to drive it.)

Last night at midnight our phone rang and it was the RCMP, they had recovered a bike matching his description in White Rock.  They asked him some questions about marks etc. on it to see if it was indeed his bike.  I'm thinking, why not just ask him what the vin# we have recorded is?  Instead they ask him if there's any special markings, Chad says yes, the suchnsuch pipe is gold and there's a dent on the wah wah waaah and a scratch on the blah blah blah.  She asks if there is any markings on the back, any writing.  We don't remember anything but I look through my pictures and don't see any writing.  She says, so, you didn't have any graffiti on it.  Uh, negatory.

This is the bike before.

You would never guess its an 85 unless you knew bikes.  My dad(2) cherried this bike right up and gave it to Chad.

I don't have an after pic yet, but she's pretty beaten up, aside from the graffiti which came right off with some gasoline.

He's still buying a new bike at the end of the month, though.  It was already in the cards, this is just a bonus.  He's had his eye on a 2005 suzuki something or other, and it's got a great bitch seat for me.  Woot woot!

OK that picture is way too big and I don't have time to resize it right now or switch it to flickr.  If you follow this link you will hit my photobucket account, which I used before I was turned onto my true love, flickr, scroll down and you can't miss it.

She's Pregnant and I'm Not

Friday, March 31, 2006

Yesterday I wrote this really nice post about my BFF and her being pregnant and stuff.  She called me early (like she has every day since finding out she was pg) to ask if I'd go babyshopping with her.  Well, we aren't shopping for  babies, but you know what I mean.  She got here 30 minutes early and I told her I'd just written something about her and saved it to draft as it wasn't done yet.  I just went to touch it up and its gone.  Sayanora.

I guess she'll have to wait for the next blue moon for me to get into mush mode!

PS We went shopping again today for maternity clothes and they have the belly pillows in teh changeroom so you can see what you will look like and she looks so freaking cute all prego and shit.

As much as I love him, I hate Creed more

Wednesday, March 29, 2006

I can' Chris Daughtry chose a Creed song for last nights show.  What is this?  1998?  Show some self respect, man.  Why not go with another Live cover, he pulled that one off quite nicely, even if it was a Live cover of a Johnny Cash tune (which he quickly made my new favorite song last week just by singing it, that is the power this man has).

Now I want to run away from music FOREVER.

Have the lambs stopped screaming yet?

Black and Gold

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

I know I've said it before, but I have to say again how much I love myspace.  I already have 30 friends even, so it loves me, too.  Of course I see lots of people out there with like 1000 or hell even 10,000, and no I'm not talking about the 'celebs', I'm talking about average janes and joes, so I must still be a loser of sorts even though I had that damn eye surgery.  Then again, I'm not whoring this friendship train out,  I don't want 1000 friends on my list unless I really have 1000 friends.  (Which I don't).  I'm happy with the ones I have :)

A week or so ago I got a message from one of my best friends when I was 15 years old.  When you look back at a certain time in your life or at your memories of a certain person, there is usually one emotion that rushes to the forefront and this is the emotion  you most feel when you think of this era in your life or this person.  For me, with T, its laughter.  My gut curls up to protect itself from aching, we used to laugh so hard, so often.  Blinker fluid, anyone?

As we grew up T went through some really rough patches and we lost touch.  We'd keep in touch once every 3 years or so, last time I saw her was when she came up for my bachelorette party 8 years ago, and I heard an update from a friend who ran into her about 6 years ago.  Things weren't going so well.  I've often wondered what she's doing, what happened to her, where she was in her life.  I'm so glad she found me because now I know.  We talked on the phone yesterday for about 30 minutes and it was just like old times, no strange, awkward moments, she told me about her life, her kids, her business, and she has done so amazingly well, I am so proud of her and what she's accomplished, we've made plans for June and I can't WAIT to see her and give her the biggest hug in human history.

This ones for Roxanne and Holly!

Tuesday, March 21, 2006

My sisters in law are flying into town in early April to spend 4 days here, sans kids, sans any extra men, WOOHOO!  I might actually GO TO GABBYS!  If you know me, you know that's a rarity.

Anyway, to celebrate the drinking that will cometh forth in early April, I know those gals would die to see me in a cowboy hat.  Here I am, Canadian Cowgirl at Convention:

I left Las Vegas

Monday, March 20, 2006

in one piece.  Phew!  The week has been crazy, and we had a computer crash and had the bitch in the shop for 4 days to retrieve my photos and work files, but I did get some of my pictures on my flickr account, here's some highlights:

First of all, the original plan was Saras plane was to land 40 minutes before mine, so she would be stuck waiting for me at the baggage terminal  (with slot machines so she was down with that).  As I was flying in I was thinking, I'm so glad she has to wait for me and not me for her because I am an impatient person by nature and detest waiting.  You see where this is going, right?  It's very windy and we circle for a while, then land, and lo and behold, I check every slot machine and don't see my sister.  I call Doug, Saras plane was circling to land and started running low on fuel, so they flew to LA to fill up then back.  Fortunately I got off my plane at 10:45 and we were checked into our hotel by 1am, and we took a limo there.  The shuttles had stopped running, or so we were told, we found out later you can bribe the shuttle bus drivers ;)

More to post, but not enough time today.  Here are some pics:

SPF...Like Yesterdays Paper

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

Since I'll be gone on Friday this week here is my SPF a bit find out about Stuff Portrait Friday go see Kristine and don't forget to tell me if you played!

Your Garbage Can:

SPF Garbage Can

Your Junk Drawer:

SPF Junk drawer

Thats bingo dabber ink on the door.  Of course in my line of work I always have to have tons of batteries around, but those are for Cmans Geotrax trains.

Your Trunk:

SPF Trunk

I don't have a 'trunk', but since I had my suitcase out that I was packing, I figured it could qualify.  I just bought this to carry my demo line in to my parties and I love it, even if it looks like a Barbie suitcase.  I used to despise pink and lately I'm on a pink kick, I have an awesome burberryish pink purse, pink shoes, pink shirts, a pink necklace...I think my 30's are going to be my pink decade.

I'm totally nervous about flying tomorrow night, I can't get over the feeling that the plane might crash.  And then all of these things happen that make me wonder if its a sign, like Carsons being extra cuddly today, and when I was driving American Pie came on the radio....

I think I'll just need to order a couple stiffies when I get on the plane.

I mean drinks, get your mind out of the gutter!

Oh happy day

Tuesday, March 07, 2006

I am going to have a baby, and I don't even have to deal with the pregnancy.  My BFF is knocked up.  I'm so incredibly happy for her, she is entering into a new and unknown phase in her life and I'm so excited.

Congratulations, Jen and Steve.  I look forward to getting revenge with your kid ;)
